Negombo Chief Public Health Inspector (PHI) H. Gunaratne has cautioned a number of churches in the vicinity which were holding Feasts and Masses to adhere to health guidelines in view of the prevailing situation in the country over COVID-19.
He requested churches in Negombo which are holding the annual feast to ask all devotees to strictly adhere to the health guidelines.
He called on priests in charge of the churches to ensure that the number of devotees coming in is restricted.
He added that there were instances where the devotees showed scant regard to health guidelines and had acted in a manner that was detrimental to the effort to contain COVID-19.
He further said that at a time when there is a risk of COVID-19 cases spreading in Negombo, the need to involve the public in church festivals should be reconsidered.
