Deepest ground water: Experts identify two locations

Water Supply Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara has said that geological experts have found two locations in the country where the ground water level is at a considerably deep level.

Citing the report presented by experts, the Minister however has said that even at these two locations the ground water level is around 30 feet deep.

The two places according to Nanayakkara are Marichchikaddi area in Mannar and Eragama area in the East. According to a media communiqué by the Ministry, Nanayakkara has handed over the report to the Prime Minister and the Health Minister. Minister Nanayakkara also requested the newly appointed Committee of Experts appointed to look into the issue of the final rites of the COVID 19 deceased to take into consideration the report submitted to him by geological experts.

A special meeting was held recently under the patronage of the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the request of the Muslim Members of Parliament to discuss the matter of the final rites of those who die due to COVID 19.

During the meeting the Prime Minister had instructed minister Nanayakkara to find locations in the country where the groundwater level is the deepest.
