Former Prime Minister and Leader of the United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe’s nomination to the UNP National List post to Parliament which is currently vacant, was finalized yesterday, former Minister Arjuna Ranatunga’s media division announced in a release.
The release cited that Ranil Wickremesinghe was previously nominated for the post of National Member of Parliament by the National Organizer of the party Navin Dissanayake and former Member of Parliament Arjuna Ranatunga.
“It was Arjuna Ranatunga who initiated the discussion at the Management Committee meeting yesterday. Although Navin Dissanayake did not attend the meeting, Arjuna Ranatunga pointed out that Ranil Wickremesinghe is suitable for the post of UNP National List Member. Those present at the meeting did not oppose the idea and the committee members handed over a letter signed by all to Ranil Wickremesinghe requesting him to accept the post of National List Member of Parliament.”
Speaking to the media at the end of the meeting, Arjuna Ranatunga said that Ranil Wickremesinghe was the most suitable person to go to Parliament from his party on behalf of the country.
