Courts restrain LTTE commemoration

Police Media Spokesperson, DIG Ajith Rohana said the Mannar and Vavuniya Magistrate’s courts had issued two restraining orders against Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) commemoration day ceremonies which are scheduled to be held next week.

Mannar and Vavuniya Police made applications regarding these ceremonies to the Mannar and Vavniya Magistrate’s courts obtained these restraining orders, he added.

The Mannar Magistrate’s Court issued a restraining order for five persons and the Vavuniya Magistrate’s Court issued a restraining order for eight persons preventing them from celebrating on that day, he said.

The DIG said action will be taken against those who violate this Court order. The ceremony is held each year on November 27 to mark the death of first the LTTE cadre named Shankar.
