Attorney General Dappula De Livera will take further legal action against former IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando for failing to take measures to prevent a terrorist attack on Easter Sunday in 2019 despite receiving intelligence information.
The Attorney General yesterday (19) made a written request to the Chairman of the Presidential Commission of Investigate (PCoI) probing Easter Sunday attacks to provide him statements and testimonies of certain witnesses recorded by the Commission, Coordinating Officer to the Attorney General, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said.
The Attorney General has requested the Chairman of the Commission to provide evidence and recorded video footage of former IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and Director of the State Intelligence Service DIG Nilantha Jayawardena.
The CID recently informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court that all investigations against former IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando in connection with the Easter Sunday terrorist attack have been completed and all copies of the investigation have been referred to the Attorney General for further legal action.
Accordingly, the Attorney General has requested the Chairman of the PCoI to provide him with some of the evidence and videotapes recorded by the commission to take further legal action against the suspects in connection with the terrorist attacks on Easter Sunday.
