D. A. Rajapaksa, a beacon of hope for downtrodden masses - Chief Sanghanayake

The late D. A. Rajapaksa was a tower of strength and a beacon of hope for the entire Ruhunu Magma Pattu and the downtrodden masses, said Chief Sanghanayake Dakshina Lanka and Viharadipathi of the Vajiragiri Viharaya in Tangalle Ven. Mirisse Dhammawansa Thera.

The Chief Sanghanayake Thera was speaking at the 53rd death anniversary commemoration of the Lion of Ruhuna, D. A. Rajapaksa which was held at the foot of the D. A. Rajapaksa Statue at Tangalle.

The Thera said that according to Buddhist teachings, parents are the most valued treasure and the resource for their children.

The Thera said that the late D. A. Rajapaksa has given the country children who saved the country from disasters during various periods.

The first citizen of the country is President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The second citizen of the country is Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and there are Ministers of the same family who render a yeomen service to the country and its citizens.

The Thera said that members of the Maha Sangha in the past came to the foot of D. A. Rajapaksa’s and made a request to give strength and courage to the rulers of the country in the Rajapaksa family to put an end to the barbarian LTTE.

Viharadipathi of the Wanawasakuda Viharaya in Tangalle and Dhammadinna Mahapirivena Director Ven. Mandaduwe Deerananda Thera conducted religious activities.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Ministers Chamal Rajapaksa, Namal Rajapaksa, Mahinda Amaraweera and SPC members were present on the occasion.
