Quarantine curfew will be strictly enforced - DIG

Acting Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said that when the quarantine curfew comes into effect in the Western Province from midnight today, no one will be allowed to commute in or out of these districts, expect for certain groups.

“This week is a decisive factor in ensuring that this COVID-19 pandemic is contained.

We humbly request everyone to stay indoors as much as possible. For those who need to collect essentials and medications, they have been given an opportunity until 10 pm. However, after 12 midnignt, the entire Western Province will come under a blanket curfew and we expect everyone to abide by these rules and regulations,” he said.

He added that only ambulances, vehicles involved in disaster related activities and essential services will be allowed to enter or exit the Western Province during this weekend.

He added that roadblocks will be erected at various entry points to ensure that there is no movement of vehicles.

The Acting Police Media Spokesperson also emphasized that wedding ceremonies and other pre-planned functions will be prohibited in the Western Province during this weekend.

“We are letting you know early so that you can take necessary measures to hold these events at a later time,” he said. DIG Ajith Rohana said that such strict measures are being put in place due to the virulent nature of the virus which has exceeded numbers as those seen in March, earlier this year.
