COVID-19 recoveries rise to 3317

The number of COVID-19 recoveries of the country has risen to 3317 with 10 persons who contracted the virus discharged after recovering and only 1461 COVID 19 positive individuals currently receiving treatments at 13 hospitals across the country, the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health confirmed.

Accordingly, four patients from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), two from the Welikanda Base Hospital and four patients from the Iranawila Base Hospital were discharged today.

The Epidemiology Unit further stated that around 306 persons suspected to have contracted the virus are also under medical observation.

The number of COVID 19 positive cases in the country has been increased to 4791 with 39 more individuals tested positive for the virus by this morning.

National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak Head, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said 25 persons among 39 individuals tested positive for the virus today were identified from quarantine centres and 14 individuals were identified as contracts of Minuwangoda garment factory workers.

Accordingly, the Minuwangoda cluster has increased to 1346.

Four undergraduates of the Ruhuna University and four persons of their boarding house were put in quarantine after a mother of an undergraduate from Kandana visited the University to see her daughter. Her father has been tested positive for COVID-19.

According to PHIs in the area, samples have been taken from these eight persons for PCI tests.

The Health authorities have advised the university authorities to postpone all examinations at the university until the results of the PCR test are released.The results of the PCR tests are expected to be released tomorrow. (13|)

COVID-19: Ten recovered (14:55)

Ten more individuals recovered from COVID-19 bringing the total recoveries in the country to 3317, the Epidemiology Unit confirmed.

According to the epidemiology unit there are only 1,461 active cases being treated in various hospitals across the country.
 
The total count of positive coronavirus cases found in Sri Lanka currently sits at 4,791.
