The annual Major Tier T-20 Tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket(SLC) will get underway from October 23 with the participation of 26 teams.

This popular tournament among the top cricket playing clubs in the country, will create an ideal opportunity for the players to showcase their performance, which will enable the players to knock the doors at the upcoming Lanka Premier League(LPL) tournament and the National selectors to scout the players for the National pool. The 26 teams are slated in four groups and the respective group leader and the runner-up will qualify for the quarter finals at the end of the League points table. All league stage matches are scheduled to be completed by November 3 before the commencement of the quarterfinal matches, to be played on November 6 at P. Sara Stadium and CCC respectively. The semifinal matches will be held at NCC grounds on November 7 while the grand final is scheduled to be played on November 8 at SSC grounds. Two matches will be played in a venue per day on the morning and afternoon basis.

The defending Champions are CCC while the Chilaw Marians were the runner up at the previous tournament held last year. “This is a golden opportunity for the players to showcase their talent to catch the eyes of the National selectors and also to fight for a place in a team at the lucrative LPL tournament.” Said Bandula Dissanayake, Chairman Tournament Committee, SLC.
