Athletic coaching course from Sept. 25

The athletics coaching course conducted by the Sri Lanka Athletics will be held from September 25 to October 6 at the lecture hall of the Hockey grounds, Reid Avenue.

According to the Vice President of Sri Lanka Athletics G.L.S. Perera Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa and top athletic officials had a successful discussion about the progress of the athletic activities and finally decided to give coaching license for all coaches. The coaches who have not got this license will not be able to coach from 2021. This is a good decision as some of the coaches today do not have the minimum qualification to coach. Some athletes who have retired have taken to coaching without any qualification. This type of license will prevent incompetent coaches from guiding the youngsters.

The coaches who have not obtained the minimum qualifications for coaching have to follow this coaching course to get official license and already 3O coaches have been selected for this course after interviews. The volunteer coaches attached to the Education ministry are also among these selected coaches for this level one course.

The coaches who will complete this course successfully will receive a certificate from the Sri Lanka Athletics President Major General Palitha Fernando who will be the chief guest at the certificate awarding ceremony.

Meanwhile the coaches who obtain the highest marks during this course will be eligible to follow the world Athletics level one course, added Athletics Vice President G.L.S Perera.
