Ravi and Aloysius indicted

The Bribery Commission yesterday filed indictments consisting of six counts against former Minister Ravi Karunanayake and PTL beneficiary owner Arjun Aloysius in the Colombo High Court.

The Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption alleged that former Minister had committed a punishable offence under Section 19 (c) of the Bribery Commission Act while soliciting and accepting a gratification being a public servant between February 12, 2016 and September 30, 2016.

The Bribery Commission alleged first accused Ravi Karunanayake had accepted a gratification from second accused Aloysius while purchasing an apartment at Kollupitiya (No. 5PH2, Monarch Housing Complex) for Rs.11.68 million using the cheques issued by Walt & Row Associates (Pvt) Ltd and Perpetual Capital Private Ltd in which Aloysius was a director.

The indictments allege that the second accused Arjun Aloysius to be charged for aiding and abetting the commission of this offence under Section 25 (2) read with section 19 (c) of the Bribery Commission Act.

The prosecution had named 58 individuals as witnesses. The Bribery Commission further listed 32 documents as production items in the case.
