North-Central Province (NCP) Governor Maheepala Herath ensured that all issues faced by farmers would be solved soon. He said so while taking part in an inspection tour at the Anuradhapura, Nachchaduwa, Thalawa, and Eppawala Agrarian Development Centres. The Governor also discussed the arrangements being made for the 2020/21 Maha Season’s cultivation requirements, matters pertaining to the provision of seeds and fertilizer, and the human-elephant conflict.

Governor Herath urged farmers to expedite their work in order to bring President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s vision for an agro-centric country to fruition. Furthermore, he said that the government has halted the importation of 16 crop varieties in order to boost local production.

The Governor also said that the strategies to boost the local agriculture sector include the use of modern technology and traditional methodology.

He added that under the directions of President Rajapaksa, the government would give priority to strengthening the national economy and the livelihood of farmers.

Governor Herath also said that farming activities have neither been postponed or halted due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and that food security has been ensured throughout the country.
