Five more COVID-19 patients detected

The National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said that five new COVID-19 patients were detected as of yesterday morning. One of them was a returnee from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) who was being quarantined at the Five Star hotel, one from Qatar who was being quarantined at the Jetwing Blue quarantine center, another three from Madagascar and Oman respectively.

Issuing a media release, the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID 19 also stated that 22 patients returned home after recovering as at 6 am yesterday morning. Newly recovered 22 patients are returnees from abroad. The NOCPC further stated that 5895 persons were undergoing quarantine at 59 centers under the Tri-Forces as at yesterday.

Meanwhile, a total of 320 persons concluded their quarantine process at the military-run quarantine centers yesterday and a total of 42,582 persons had returned home after completing the quarantine process. Thus, a total of 111 persons arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday morning. Among them, 22 returnees are from Dubai, 52 from Qatar, 30 from Japan and 7 from Australia. All those returnees will be directed to quarantine centers controlled by the Tri-forces upon their arrival,” the NOCPC further stated.

The number of patients reported from the Kandakadu cluster has increased to 649, out of which 528 are detainees, 67 are staff, 5 invited staff members, 48 close contacts and 1 close contact of the patient found from Welikada prison. A total of 638 have recovered from the Kandakadu Cluster and another 11 are still undergoing treatments, the centre highlighted.
