State Minister inspects Colombo Port

Warehouse Facilities, Container Yards, Port Supply Facilities and Boats and Shipping Industry Development State Minister Jayantha Samaraweera made his first visit to the Colombo Port recently, after assuming duties. Following his participation in a special meeting with the Heads of Divisions at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority’s (SLPA) Chairman’s Office, he inspected the East Container Terminal (ECT), the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) and the Pilot Station of the Colombo Port.

The State Minister, in his address, said he was committed to fulfilling the duties assigned to his ministry that included the development of facilities at the Colombo Port.

“According to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s Vision of Prosperity, we will also focus on the infrastructure development of the port sector of Sri Lanka in line with the policy implementations. I am confident that the development of the existing facilities at the Colombo Port would further generate huge revenue,” he said.

He said he was confident of the potential of the Colombo Port to take its position towards higher rankings in global maritime ratings and would take steps to expedite the launch of a project to expand the facilities of the ports of Sri Lanka, including the Colombo Port. He also said with the potentials of the best geographical location of Sri Lanka, he was much pleased to have the opportunity to work with the highly-experienced staffs and employees of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.

Secretary to the State Ministry of Warehouse Facilities, Container Yards, Port Supply Facilities and Boats and Shipping Industry Development D.D. Marathaarachchi and a number of ministry officials were present.
