Met Dept. warns of continuous inclement weather

Update: The Meteorology Department warned that torrential rains that have been experienced in most parts of the country will continue for a few more days and has cautioned that winds will be fairly strong and may increase to 50 kmph.

In a media advisory the Department warned that showers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts. Winds will be fairly strong at times, picking up to 50 kmph in the Northern and North Western Provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota, Kandy as well as Nuwara Eliya.

The Meteorology Department issued a Special Advisory for heavy rain, forecasting very heavy falls above 150 mm in some regions of the country on September 9.

Prevailing showery condition is expected to continue further particularly in the “high risk” districts.

The alert is applicable to the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
