Twelve-year-old Grade VI student, Shanmuganathan Vijeyarubini of Kali Kovil Road, Kuganesapuram in the Valaichchenai Police area, died falling into a waterhole last Saturday (5).
She and her sister had gone to drink water when the bank of the waterhole collapsed and she fell into the water. Her sister had alerted the neighbours. They rescued the girl and took her to the Valaichchenai Base Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Her mother, 35–year-old Bandaiyah Valliammai, is a single parent with three children.
She rears cattle for their livelihood. Valaichchenai Police are investigating.
