Hambantota District Health Services Director Dr. Deepika Patabandige quashed fears of residents of Mahasenpura and Akurugoda in Tissamaharama about a possible spread of Covid-19 as two hotels situated near Tissamaharama are being used as quarantine centres.
Travellers disembarking at Mattala international airport are sent to these quarantine centres. These inmates undergoing quarantine are under the supervision of the Army and the health authorities. PCR tests and other required health guidelines at these centres are strictly adhered to.
Dr. Patabendige reiterated that there is no risk of Covid-19 being spread from these centres. If Covid-19 patients were identified, they will be directed to the old Hambantota hospital, which has prepared for this purpose, she said.
