A society on behalf of Sri Lankan lyric writers was established on July 31. Lyricists from the elder generation as well as modern day upcoming young lyric writers got together to establish this group.
The society was the brainchild of seasoned vocalist Keerthi Pasquel. Veterans in the field like Wimaladasa Perera, D C Jayasinghe, D B T Edirisinghe, Hector Wijayasiri, Jayantha Kalupahana, and Tissa Dias as well as the next generation of lyricists like Bandula Jayasinghe, Daya D Fonseka, Amila Thenuwara, Shehan Galahitiyawa and many more were preset.
Ratrana Sri Wijesinghe and Nilar N Cassim were co- presidents. George Robson de Silva was the secretary while the deputy secretary was Manuranga Wijesekara. Bandula Nanayakkarawasam was the treasurer while the deputy treasurer was Dilan Gamage.
Rambukkana Siddhartha thera, Prof Sunil Ariyaratne, Prof Praneeth Abeysundara, Attorney-at-law W A Abeysinghe, Saman Chandranath Weerasinghe were selected to the committee.
Geethanath Kudaligama, Sunil Yogendra, ravindra Samaraperuma, Indika Appurala, Preethi Randeniya, Sharmila Hussein, Upali Bandara Weerasekara, Yapa Bandara Seneviratne, Lasitha Jayaneththi Arachchige, Rasika D Duminda, Aradhana Ekanayake, and Chanaka Jayasekara too were included in the committee. Ruwan Nandika, Wimalaka Muhamdiram, Saman Priyadharshana, Rohana Hettiarachchi, Bandula Jagoda were included in the organizing committee. Anton J Fernando and Rodney Widanapathirana were named as media coordinators. Sathyajith Lakmal was named the coordinator for digital media. Neluka Sanjeewani Fernando was in charge of the funds. Keerthi Pasquel was named as the maid coordinator due to popular demand from those who gathered at the event.
