Ranil vows stern action against those who act against UNP

Action will be taken against members who act against the United National Party, UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said.

Wickremesinghe said it has been legally proven that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is a separate political entity. Thus, measures will be taken to remove all SJB supporters who are actively working against the UNP.

Wickremesinghe made these observations at an election meeting held in Hatton, organized by Nuwara Eliya district UNP candidate K.K.Piyadasa.

Speaking at the meeting Wickremesinghe further observed, “Some are talking about taking over the power of a head office. If they come to take the power of our head office they will end up in Courts. We are not contesting in the election to take over a political party’s head office. We are here to take power in the country.

Some of the party members who joined Samagi Jana Balawegaya were removed from the UNP. When they sought legal action against this action, the Courts said that our move was not illegal. Then they went to the Supreme Court for redress and they received the same verdict. They can go to the International Court if they want to, or even God Sakra. But the decision concerning the party membership will remain unchanged. We will take steps to remove even the Local Government members who act against the United National Party.”

Wickremesinghe observed that various UNP Governments have contributed much to the development of the Nuwara Eliya district. “Some communities within the Nuwara Eliya district received the right to vote from late President J.R. Jayewardene. We carried out a number of welfare projects in this district. We paid special attention to the education facilities of this district,” he said.

“I want to develop the economy. We need to improve the value of the rupee for any sort of development. We also need to facilitate industries to strengthen our economy. Job security is also an important matter right now. Some people claim that I am fixing deals with the present government. I don’t want any such thing. I want to take over the power of this country with the intention of developing the economy. If you want a strong economy, it is vital that the public vote for the UNP,” Wickremesinghe said.
