Kiriella seeks explanation over suspension of SLPP rallies

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Kandy District candidate Lakshman Kiriella says that the government should make it clear as to why the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) ruling party has temporarily suspended all election rallies.

He said that the government owes the people of this country a clarification over their decision. He questioned if their decision was taken in light of a “second wave” of the virus or if the government was now having second thoughts over the holding of the General Election.

Kiriella made these statements while addressing the media at his residence in Heerassagala, Kandy yesterday. He added that the Government has the responsibility to ensure that people are informed and are not misled.

He emphasized that it was the SLPP which called for an election when all parties were of the view that the election should be postponed.

He further said that although the government had issued notices to the banks asking them to provide loans at concessionary interest rates, they were limited to announcements and that the banks still do not lend money to ordinary citizens as advised by the government.
