Mahela appears before SIU

Former Sri Lanka Cricket Captain Mahela Jayawardena arrives at the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of the Sports Ministry to record a statement over the 2011 World Cup match fixing allegations.

Mahela Jayawardene held the vice-captaincy of the team at that time.

The SIU commenced the probe following the allegation by former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage that the 2011 ICC World Cup Final between India and Sri Lanka was fixed.

Sports Ministry’s SIU informs Mahela not to appear before SIU today

The Special Investigations Unit said this morning it had informed former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene not to appear before the SIU today.

SIU further said, that another date will be informed for him to come record his statement.
