Follow health guidelines to the core - MRI Director

A total of 60 percent COVID-19 patients found from Sri Lanka did not show symptoms and no COVID-19 patient has been detected from society in the past 32 days, Medical Research Institute (MRI) Director Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara said.

Dr. Bandara said COVID-19 virus droplets can stay in a space similar to the size one twenty of a hair. “Therefore the most important factor is living every moment with mindfulness which helps all to avoid touching eyes, nose, mouth and entire face area with contaminated hands,” he said. Dr. Bandara said the N95 mask prevents the virus from entering into the nose and mouth of a person while all the other masks such as surgical masks, linen masks prevent the virus from coming out from the nose and mouth.

Therefore it is very important for all to wear any type of mask in public to prevent the virus from spreading in society. Individuals in high risk categories such as health staff should wear the N95 mask”, he said.

He said that all should strictly follow all health guidelines issued by the Government and the Health Ministry and keep at least a one meter distance from another person, washing hands with soap often or using a hand sanitizer when hands cannot be washed with soap and water and wear a mask in public.
