Celebrate Vesak in a spiritual manner - Army Chief

Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva in a special statement regarding the Vesak festival under the present circumstances said that while Sri Lanka celebrates Vesak it is not possible to celebrate in the usual colourful manner this year. “As we did with the New Year celebrations, we will have to celebrate Vesak too in a private manner due to the Coronavirus threat. Therefore, I appeal to the public to remain within the confines of your homes and celebrate Vesak in a spiritual manner.”

He said that  206 individuals, including students were flown to Sri Lanka yesterday from London and were taken to the Tri Services managed Quarantine Centres (QCs) for quarantine. Similarly another 190 individuals are expected to returned to Sri Lanka from Singapore as well and upon arrival they too will be directed to quarantine centres, he added.

Meanwhile, another 127 persons who had completed the quarantine process returned to their homes yesterday. So far under the Tri Services 5,188 persons have completed the quarantine process and returned to their homes. Currently, there are 4,819 persons still in quarantine at 39 Tri-Forces run quarantine centres. He said that while 342 Navy personnel have so far tested positive for the Coronavirus, there is no danger of infection spreading among the public as all military personnel have now been brought back to their respective camps.
