Global cases exceed 3 million, US one million

More than three million coronavirus cases have been reported globally, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, USA. The total number of deaths worldwide was close to 219,000. The United States leads in terms of global infections, reporting 1,015,289 cases nationwide. Across the US, more than 58,300 people have died due to the coronavirus pandemic. New York State has the largest number of cases in the USA.

Spain is next with 237,000 cases, Italy 201,000, France 169,000, UK  162,000 and Germany 160,500. Italy has reported nearly 27,300 deaths, Spain 24,200, France 23,600 and UK 21,600.  Turkey has confirmed at least 115,000 coronavirus cases according to data from Johns Hopkins University. China reported 22 new cases as of April 28, according to its National Health Commission, bringing the country’s total to 82,858 cases. Russia’s crisis response center reported 99,939 cases of the coronavirus on Wednesday, having reported an additional 5,841 cases in the last 24 hours.

The total number of reported fatalities remains relatively low, however, at 972 deaths. Russia says it has carried out 3.3 million tests. On Tuesday, President Vladimir Putin extended the national “non-working” month through to May 11.
