Officers attached to the Elpitiya branch of the Excise Department busted two illegal breweries in the Uragaha area recently and seized illicit liquor, spirits and brewing equipment worth over one million ruppees.
They had also taken into custody two suspects.
According to the Excise sources these illegal breweries were located in Polathupalatha and Polathukanda in the Uragaha area.
During the raid officers had taken into custody over 20000 milliliters of moonshine, 390,000miilitres of Goda, barrels, copper coils and chemicals used in the brewing process.
The raids were carried under the instructions of Souther Prrovince Assistant Excise Commissioner Channa Weerakkody.
The raid was carried out under the guidance of the officer in charge of the Elpitiya Excise branch Jayantha De Silva. Officer Asanka Kalyanapriya, Sarath Gunaratne, Madushanka, and S.Chandana.
