About 300 fishermen in Negombo held a protest at the Pitipanaduwa Junction on Tuesday against illegal sand mining in the Negombo lagoon. They stated that the environment is damaged extensively in the Negombo Lagoon Development Project. They charged that a sand mafia operates in the area.
