Tirappane Pradesheeya Sabaha (PS) members said that several political activists in Anuradhapura attempted to disrupt the development schemes of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and they should be revealed for the benefit of the people of the area. They said that legal action will be taken in the near future against the disruptive activities that these people conduct breaching the Pradesheeya Sabha Act.

The PS members were addressing the recent media briefing in Anuradhapur at the Tirappane Pradesheeya Sabha Auditorium.

Five members from the Eksath Lanka Maha Sabha, five members from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Five from the United National Party (UNP), and one Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) participated in the press briefing.

PS member Rosan Ilangasingha said that 16 PS members from all the parties in the Tirappane Pradesheeya Sabha take part in the press briefing. He said the press briefing is held to reveal the unfair and unjust activities that several are conducting against the public welfare in Tirappane. He said the money allocated under the Sapiri Gamak development scheme of the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has been misappropriated by these elements and that they would not tolerate such activities.

He said that rehabilitating roads has to be carried out by Pradesheeya Sabahas under the 21,22,23 clauses of the 1987 No. 15 Pradesheeya Sabha Act. But when the Tirappane PS carries out road rehabilitations in the area, Certain politicians in Anuradhapura oppose us and attempt to carry out those activities. “We have commenced rehabilitating roads and other development activities as per the selection of the Sapiri Gamak officials. Now these so called politicians have named it differently and attempt to carry out those projects. This is not what President Gotabaya Rajapaksa expects,” he said. “We request the President to take steps to inspect the whole procedure again,” he said. He said that these people do not need to make the President’s programme a success. “What they want is to take the commissions of these projects and divide the benefits among themselves. They breach the Act recklessly. He said that Mihantale Electorate SLPP organizer has allegedly told that these projects should not be given to the Tirappane PS,” he said. He said that 10 members who supported immensely for the victory of Gotabaya Rajapaksa are now participating in the press briefing. They are now facing a political setback because of the activities of these politicians. “We do not care who get the contracts. We only need to carry out them for the benefit of the people without corruption,” he said.

He said that when the President urges everyone to grow sampling, these politicians here in Anuradhapura cut trees and attempt to grow Komarika. “They fraction lands and deceive people that they will be given plot of lands giving them false applications. These politicians breach presidential vision. We as people’s representatives oppose them strongly and request the President to take steps against these politicians before long,” he said. He said that the President initiated the project to provide 1 lakh of jobs to people in low income families of the whole country. “However, one politician in Anuradhapura has distributed about two lakhs of applications among the people of Anuradhapura. These politicians are deceiving people. We oppose their despicable activities and request the President to take action very fast to arrest this situation,” he said.
