Paddy purchasing begins

 A harvest of 350,000 metric tons of paddy is expected during this Maha season from the Kurunegala district and arrangements have been made by the government to purchase 50,000 metric tons of paddy through recognized rice mills, Kurunegala District Secretary Gamini Illangarathne said.  

The District Secretary said so at a gathering held at Thalangedara, Kurunegala commencing the purchase of paddy.

He said that paddy with less than 14 percent moisture would be purchased at Rs 50.per kilo through the stores of the Paddy Marketing Board.
