Most Ven. Ampitiye Rahula Maha Thera passes away

The Chief Incumbent of the Maharagama Siri Vajiragnana Dharmayathanaya and Senior Advisor of the Supreme Council of the Amarapura Dharmarakshitha Maha Nikaya, Most Venerable Ampitiye Rahula Maha Thera passed away last morning.

The Thera was 106 years of age at the time of his passing away. The Nayake Thera was the co-founder of the Maharagama Bhikkhu Training Center in 1958 along with late Most Ven. Madihe Pannaseeha Maha Nayake Thera and also was the teacher of a number of Theras including Maharagama Dhammasiri, Gangodawila Soma and Thirikunamale Ananda.

The remains of the Most Ven. Ampitiye Rahula Maha Thera laid at the Siri Vajiragnana Dharmayathanaya, Maharagama on Wednesday afternoon (February 19) and will be then brought in procession to the Siri Vajiraramaya, Bambalapitiya for public respect. The cremation will be held on February 20. More details will be notified later.
