Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said that he made both Ranil Wickremesinghe and Sajith Premadasa aware that a strong opposition is needed to establish democracy in a country.
He was addressing the media after having blessing of Asgiri Chapter Mahanayake Most Venerable Warakagoda Gnanaratana Thera on February 8.
He said that he is not a part of the crisis in the party now and he is only attempting to resolve the differences between the separate groups in the party for the unity of the UNP.
He said that a strong opposition could be built by rallying round opposition parties and that he told Ranil and Sajith to carry out the same for the sake of the party and the people.
The Speaker said he would make political decisions in the future taking into account people’s needs and stand firm for the justice and fairness.
