Writ petition against decision fixed for support by Court of Appeal

A writ petition challenging the Cabinet decision to remove the existing requirement of obtaining licences for the transportation of sand, soil, and clay, has been fixed for support by the Court of Appeal.

Court of Appeal Justice Arjuna Obeysekera fixed the petition seeking an interim order against the Cabinet decision to be taken up for support on February 27.

This petition had been filed by Centre for Environmental Justice through Counsel Ravindranath Dabare.

The petitioner is seeking an interim order suspending the Cabinet decision taken on December 4, last year, with regard to the removal of the existing requirement of obtaining licences for the transportation of sand, soil, and clay for local industries. The petitioner has cited the Cabinet of Ministers, including Environment and Wildlife Resources Minister S.M. Chandrasena, as the respondents.
