The newcomers to inter school tournament cricket Wijewardene Maha Vidyalaya, Kiriwaththuduwa, Homagama has booked a berth in the third round of the inter-schools under 13 division three cricket tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association for the Singer Trophy.
Wijewardene Maha Vidyalaya is captained by all rounder Nisalith Sandiw and his deputy is Gawsitha Maligaspe and they are coached by former Dharmaloka Kelaniya cricketer Lasantha Hemal and the Master in charge is Marlon Weerasinghe.
So far they have played six matches and the third round will be on knock out basis. The highest run getter is their skipper with 225 runs which consisted of two half centuries. Also he has claimed 13 scalps for 102 runs. The significant event is Nisalitha who bas left hand bowls with the both arms left arm leg spin and right arm off spin. The highest wicket taken is Mahith Abeysekera with 23 wickets for 194 runs with tow five wicket hauls. Though Kiriwaththuduwa lads has excelled they does not have a proper grounds. Their Principal Rohitha Kumara has been very supportive during the entire tournament. In their final game they beat formidable Thurstan College on first innings by eight runs.
