A part of the statue of Andare in Udamalala, Hambantota has been broken by unknown persons.

Andare was a famous instant poet and royal jester lived in the 18th century when king Rajadhi Rajasinghe was ruling the Senkadagala Kingdom, Kandy.

He was feted with an honorary title called Sadhdha Vidhdha Palanga Pathira Rajapakse Wickramasinghe Muthukumarana for his talent in making humour and instant poems.

A memorial plaque and a statue were set up in his name in Udamalala, Hambantota where Andare died on his way to his village.

A large number of local and foreign tourists visit this place daily.
