St. Joseph Vaz Juniors enter quarter-finals

St. Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa has booked a berth in the Quarter-Finals of the All Island under 13 Division One Cricket Tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association and played for the Singer Trophy when they defeated Devapathiraja Vidyalaya Rathgama by 42 runs on first innings in a low scoring game worked off at Rathgama.

Taking the first lease Vazians occupied the crease for 61.3 overs and declared at 117 for 9 and in reply homesters were bowled out for 75 runs with a fine spell of bowling by the Vice Captain Deneth Nimsara who bagged 6 for 27 and so far Deneth has captured 38 wickets.

Vazians are captained by Inesh Dulanjana and he is the highest run getter of the team with 340 runs. They are coached by Nuwan Ruchira and the guidance support and help extended by the Principal Rev. Fr. Priyanjeewa Gunarathne the Teacher in Charge of Junior Cricket Mrs Sureka Dilhani and the Prefect of Games Gemunu Kumara is praiseworthy.

Throughout the tournament Vazians played twelve matches and they won two games outright and three on first innings and the rest were drawn. This is the third year in succession that they achieved this feat.
