Mahith Jayasumana of Lyceum International school Gampaha and Sandinthie of Musaeus College Colombo emerged open men’s and women’s champions at the Western Province Open and Junior Ranking Table Tennis tournament concluded recently at the S. Thomas Gymnasium Mt Lavinia.
Mahith defeated Thisas Ranchagoda of Royal in a hard fought three setter game 18/16, 6/11, 12/10 to win the men’s title. Sandinthie made three setter game against Oneli Lihansa of Musaeus to win the open women’s title. Sandinthie lost her first set 9/11 but she fought back strongly to win the final with two back to back sets 11/5, 11/9 to win the major title.
Meanwhile Sandinthie won the girls under 15 final by defeating same opponent Oneli in a three setter 11/13, 15/13, 11/8 to win the final.
However Oneli Lihansa managed to win the girls under 18 title defeating Minna Hashim of Ladies College 11/7, 11/8 in the final. Ping Pong Academy successfully conducted this tournament with more participants for the Western Province.
Chandana Srinath Wijethunge Secretary of the Table Tennis Association was the Chief Guest and gave away the awards . Western Province TT Association Secretary Chandana Perera and officials participated on t his occasion
