The Consumer Affairs Authority gazetted the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) for three categories of cement.
Accordingly, the maximum retail price of locally manufactured 50kg of cement is Rs. 1,005. The maximum retail price of a bag of cement that has been imported in bulk form as dust & packetted in Sri Lanka is Rs. 950 and the maximum retail price of a bag of imported cement is Rs. 930.
Issuing an extraordinary gazette notification, the CAA said those categories of cement would no longer be allowed to be sold above the gazetted MRP.
Consumer Affairs Authority Chairman retired Major General D.M.S. Dissanayaka issued the gazette notification. The CAA issued the relevant gazette notification under the powers vested in it by Section 20(5) of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, No. 09 of 2003.
