The COYLE – Myanmar Chapter was launched with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between COYLE – Myanmar and Three Maroons on November 27, 2019, in Yangon, which would serve as a foundation for coordination between the Sri Lankan and Myanmar private sectors, in order to enhance business cooperation in both countries and invigorate engagement in the global economy.
The MoU was signed during the inaugural meeting between a delegation of 20 COYLE members and 150 Myanmar businessmen with a view to discuss and pursue the future of entering into a bilateral economic relationship. The agreement outlines the organizations’ intent to work together on policy, advocacy and business promotion efforts. By collaborating more closely, the two parties hope to strengthen the growing trade and investment relationship between the countries with the COYLE, Myanmar Chapter.
Several distinguished dignitaries including the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar, Nandimitra Ekanayake were present. Business magnate and Founder Chairman of Shwe Taung Group addressed the gathering on “Opportunities in Myanmar.” A presentation on ‘Business Law in Myanmar’ was conducted by Tseng Chin-Poe, Managing Partner of Thanlwin Legal and Co-Chair of Legal Committee, AmCham Myanmar, while a talk on ‘Banking in Myanmar’ was given by Christopher Loh, MD & Chief Executive Officer uab Bank and member of the Board Advisory & Strategy Committee and Board Risk Committee.
The talks were conducive for ease of doing business, subsequently followed by networking and business-matching sessions. “We were honoured to have this inaugural meeting in Yangon to build a partnership between our two countries, with a view to advance and transform mutual economic and social development. We could achieve more together and we are excited for the positive gains this effort would deliver,” said COYLE Chairman Aminda Rodrigo.
He added, “On behalf of our COYLE membership, we are eager to pursue meaningful and increasingly robust trade and investment connections with Myanmar.
We are pleased to take this step forward alongside business leaders we regard as partners and friends. We look forward to the opportunity to build upon this successful venture as we recommit to the work of promoting innovation and fostering economic competitiveness.”
