MP Ranjith de Zoysa dead

Ratnapura district MP T. Ranjith de Soysa passed away yesterday (December 4) morning in Singapore where he was receiving treatment. He was 56. Ranjith de Zoysa who entered politics as a People’s Alliance Chairman of the Atakalanpanna Pradesheeya Sabha was later elected as a member of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council and served as the provincial lands, agriculture, minor irrigation and animal products minister.

He later gained popularity as the SLFP organiser for the Rakwana electorate and was elected UPFA MP for Ratnapura district. Ranjith de Zoysa gained notoriety as an aggressive political character from the inception of the SLPP upto the formation of the new government of 2019.

Godakawela Mahinda Maha Vidyayatana Pirivena Viharadhipati Ven. Kompitiye Sri Suseela Nayaka thera said de Zoysa who fell seriously ill a few months ago and was sent to a hospital in Singapore for treatment under the intervention of the President and the Prime Minister.He passed away at the hospital yesterday morning. His remains flown from Singapore arrived in Sri Lanka last night. Remains will be kept at the Borella Jayaratne Funeral parlour and taken to his residence in Masimbula,Godakawela at 5 pm today. Funeral arrangements will be notified later.
