Minister Harin Fernando welcomes steps taken by new President

Minister of Sports Harin Fernando stated that he believed the new President of the country Gothabaya Rajapaksa would fulfil the people’s needs and was in agreement with the President’s request that all Government institutions remove all pictures of him the Prime Minister and Ministers and only to display the Sri Lankan official emblem.

“We should respect if someone initiated a good decision for the betterment of the country. As a Sri Lankan I welcome the step taken by the newly elected President,” said Minister Fernando at a press conference held at the Ministry of Sports yesterday.

“I am totally against political revenge and I never used a single grant from my ministry during my tenure. The people have shown their decisions via voting and I respect their decision,” he said.

Speaking further the Minister said that he will continue his political journey through his political party and will never leave the party.

The Minister officially announced that he will be resigning from his position as Minister of Sports, Telecommunications and Foreign Employment in addition to his posts in the United National Party (UNP).

“Respecting the people’s mandate I am stepping down as Minister of Sports, Telecommunications & Foreign Employment. I am also resigning from my positions in the UNP. I take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported me in my tenure, and hope the good work done will be continued,” the Minister said.
