ACMC hails TNA’s decision to support Sajith

The All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) hailed the decision of Sri Lanka’s leading Tamil coalition to back New Democratic Front (NDF) Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa in the forthcoming Presidential election, a press release issued by the ACMC said.

“I commend Tamil National Alliance’s (TNA) decision to support NDF candidate Sajith Premadasa in the forthcoming Presidential election. Their unconditional support to the NDF candidate is good news and it makes us happy,” ACMC Leader, Vanni District Parliamentarian and Industry, Commerce, Resettlement of Protracted Displaced Persons, Cooperative Development, Skills Development and Vocational Training Minister Rishad Bathiudeen said.

He was addressing a pre-election rally held in support of NDF Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa in Salambakulam, Vavuniya on Sunday (3).

At the meeting, ACMC Leader Bathiudeen said Sri Lankan minorities united during 2015 Presidential elections. “Tamils and Muslims supported common candidate Maithripala Sirisena in the 2015 Presidential elections and made him the President. The minorities have united this time as well to elect Sajith Premadasa to the office and he will be the winner. The majority of Sri Lankan minorities now support Sajith Premadasa,” he said.

Speaking on the opposition, Minister Bathiudeen MP said: “Racists in the opposition Presidential candidate’s camp will be silenced once Minister Sajith wins this election. They harassed our Muslims after Easter Sunday attacks to fan the flames of communalism within the majority community so that their vote base would increase within the majority, thereby returning them to power. If the opposition Presidential candidate wins and returns to power, minorities of Sri Lanka should be ready to face a lawless, racist tyranny.”

The ACMC has already pledged its support to Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa of the United National Party-led alliance - NDF.
