A suspect was arrested with 1,498.8 Kilogrammes of beedi leaves worth over Rs. five million in his possession by police in Vavuniya. The suspect trader had been transporting the consignment in a lorry from Paranthan, Kilinochchi to Negombo.
The consignment of beedi leaves was seized on a tip-off received by DIG Anura Abeywickrama in Vavuniya and Mannar. The suspect is to be produced at the Vavuniya Magistrate’s Court.
