Hemasiri, Pujith further remanded till Nov. 6

Former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara who were arrested on charges of criminal negligence and the failure to prevent or minimise damage caused during the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks, were further remanded till November 6 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage on Wednesday.

Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris appearing on behalf of the Criminal Investigations Department informed court they had sought the permission of the Colombo High Court to transfer this case from the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court to another magistrate court.

The Additional Magistrate informed the prosecution to make their request before the Colombo Chief Magistrate.

Peiris also stated that they are conducting further investigations regarding the incident.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate had earlier issued an order directing 80 banks and financial institutions to hand over financial statements of IGP Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Fernando to the Criminal Investigations Department.

Peiris also informed the court that a few financial institutions had submitted financial statements of Jayasundara and Fernando, who are charged with criminal negligence, murder and failure to prevent or minimise damage caused during the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
