People look to priests and priests look to politicians – Anura Kumara

Falsehood and illusion has become a feature of today’s political culture, National People’s Power Presidential candidate JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayke remarked yesterday. .

Dissanayake said this when he attended the Prof. Carlo Fonseka commemoration ceremony organised by the Sri Lanka Ratonalists Association at the Colombo Public Library auditorium on Wednesday. He said people looked to the officiating priest at the Devalaya (Kapuwa) whenever they had a grievance and the priest took over the duty of placing it before a god for a solution. But, whenever the priest had a grievance he came to a politician for a solution.

He said recently courts issued a stay order preventing the chief priest of the Devundara Devalaya from entering the Devalaya premises. “The chief priest who was debarred from entering the Devalaya later came to me to place his grievance,” Dissanayake said.

“This showed how falsehood and illusion have engulfed all spheres of life in the country including politics,” he said.
