Held over Rs.1 Mn ransom demand

The Panadura Law Enforcement Unit arrested two suspects who demanded a ransom of Rs. one million from a youth in Bandaragama.

The suspects have been handed over to the Bandaragama Police to conduct further investigations.

They will be produced before the Panadura Additional Magistrate. According to Police, the wedding of victimised youth from a wealthy family in Bandaragama was to be held next month at a luxurious hotel. However, two persons, whom he knew had informed him that they would sabotage his wedding if he did not pay them Rs. one million. The youth brought the threat of the suspects to the notice of Panadura Division SSP S. D. Wickramasinghe through the OIC of the Bandaragama Police.

Panadura Division Law Enforcement Unit officials arrested the suspects under the instructions of Panadura SSP Wickramasinghe. The two suspects are a three-wheeler driver and a coconut plucker. Police are continuing investigations.
