Ruhuna undergrads accused of ragging remanded till Aug. 19

Nineteen senior students of the Ruhuna University including the president of the student union suspected of ragging and sexually molesting a second-year male student of the same university in 2018 surrendered to the Matara Police and were remanded till August 19 after being produced before the Matara Magistrate yesterday.

Darshana Udayanga, a second-year student of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ruhuna University, disclosed in detail to the media how he and other new entrants were allegedly subjected to ragging and sexual abuse by senior students. He said he was admitted to the university in December 2017 and the alleged ragging had commenced in mid February 2018 while the alleged sexual abuse took place in May 2018.
