Cabinet nod to make Mihintale a national heritage

The government will declare Mihintale, the ancient place of religious worship, as a national heritage and the Mihintale Poson Week and the Perahera as national celebrations. A memorandum presented to the Cabinet of Ministers by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in this regard was approved on Tuesday.

The necessary steps will be taken through the Buddhasasana and Wayamba Development Ministry, the Cabinet paper stated. The Prime Minister had also proposed to provide provisions to the annual Mihintale Perahera, which was approved by the Cabinet.
