Soldier’s body found hanging in army camp

The body of a Civil Defence Forces (CDF) officer attached to the Kopapilav Army Camp in Mullativu was found hanging in the army camp premises, yesterday.

It is suspected that the deceased had committed suicide. The deceased has been identified as S. Karunaratne, a 57-year-old resident of Kekirawa. He had been attached to the 16 Engineering Battalion of the Mullativu 59 Regiment.

The body was handed over to the Mullativu Hospital. Investigations are continuing.
