Nabbed with heroin

Moratuwa Police acting on a tip-off arrested a suspect with 20g of heroin, while checking a motorcycle in Katubedda on Saturday.

The 43-year-old suspect was identified as Thelge Ranga Suresh Pieris, a resident of Angulana, Moratuwa.

He was produced before the Moratuwa Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Youth shot dead

A youth was shot near Kekilla Mandiya Junction in the Rathgama Police Division, on Saturday.

He was pronounced dead on admission to the Karapitiya Hospital.

The 26-year-old victim was identified as Arumahandi Sameera Chandimal, a resident of Rathgama. His body is at the Karapitiya Hospital and the postmortem examination was carried out yesterday.

Rathgama Police said no description of the suspect was available. Investigations are continuing.

Motorcyclist killed in accident

A motorcyclist was killed when a lorry crashed into a three-wheeler and a motorcycle along the Bandaragama – Kalutara road near the Wewita Somananda Avenue Junction in the Bandaragama Police Division.

The three-wheeler driver and motorcyclist were rushed to the Bandaragama and Horana Hospitals.

The motorcyclist died on admission to the Horana Hospital.

The deceased was identified as 48-year-old Bajibudeen Mohammed Niswar, a resident of Bandaragama. His body is at the Horana Hospital.

The lorry driver has been arrested.

Bandaragama Police are investigating.

Senior citizen commits suicide

A man committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope, in Wekada, in the Pitigala Police Division on Saturday.

The 60-year-old victim was identified as Hiniduma Vithanage Somaweera, a resident of Wekada.

His body is at the Elpitiya Hospital.

Pitigala Police are investigating.

Two ‘thieves’ nabbed

Nuwara Eliya Police on Saturday arrested two main suspects in connection with a robbery which took place on July 16.

Police recovered stolen gold jewellery worth Rs. 360,000 from the suspects. The car and motorcycle used for the robbery were also seized.

The suspects were aged between the 21 and 24, and are residents of Walallawita.

They were produced before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court yesterday and Nuwara Eliya Police are continuing investigations.
