Statue worth Rs.3 mn stolen from temple

A rare and valuable brass statue of God Vishnu that was enshrined at the Sri Bodhimalakararama Temple in Pannala, Kurunegala, had been stolen last Friday night.

Sri Bodhimalakararama Chief Incumbent Ven. Welpalle Rathanatissa Nayaka Thera had lodged an entry at the Pannala Police Station over the matter. The thieves had entered the shrine room after breaking its doors.

The statue weighs 40 kilograms and is two feet tall. It is also estimated to be worth Rs.3 million.

Pannala Police are continuing investigations.
