‘Police B-report erroneous’ – Defence Counsel

Filing a motion before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, the President’s Counsel Tirantha Walaliyadda appearing on behalf of the notorious drug king pin Mohamed Najim Mohamed Imran alias Kanjipani Imran yesterday informed court that the first B-report filed against his client was erroneous.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Kanchana Neranjana de Silva then issued notice on Officer-In-Charge of the Colombo Crimes Division to appear before the court on July 24. The Magistrate also instructed the CCD make their submissions on the same date regarding this matter.

Counsel Walaliyadda also pleaded court to issue notices on the Attorney General and Kanjipani Imran to appear before the court. After consideration, the Magistrate observed that court would consider issuing notices on the Attorney General and Kanjipani Imran on July 19. There are more than 27 cases in several courts against suspect Kanjipani Imran. According to Police, Kanjipani Imran is wanted in connection with three murder charges, 15 attempted murders and, illegal drug smuggling charges.

Kanjipani Imran was arrested on March 28 by local law enforcement officers when attempting to board a flight to the Maldives on arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport from Dubai on flight LZ 547 after the UAE authorities had deported him and three others. He was arrested along with drug kingpin Makandure Madhush on February 5 by Dubai law enforcement officers.

The CCD reported to court that they had obtained clearance from the Defense Secretary to hold the suspect for three months to question him under the PTA. The CCD is conducting further investigations.
